Our IATEFL BESIG travel grants are aimed at providing financial support for members wishing to participate in global conferences with a dedicated BESIG strand. A travel grant consists of £700 against expenses, such as travel, accommodation or any other conference-related costs.
To qualify, you must:
be an individual member of IATEFL and the Business English SIG
have been a member for at least twelve months prior to the conference you wish to attend
have been active in IATEFL BESIG, e.g. by writing an article for Business Issues,
attending the Break Room regularly, attending the IATEFL BESIG Annual Conference, volunteering for IATEFL BESIG, etc.
have not received a scholarship or grant from IATEFL BESIG for the past two years
visit talks and/or workshops related to Business English at the respective conference
write a 700-word report of your conference experience for the next Business Issues
give a short report in the BESIG break room or other online event about the conference
In 2025, IATEFL BESIG launched a travel grant program to help members attend international conferences featuring a business English strand and connect with the wider community. Since then, momentum has been building steadily.
So far, we have had three winners and one more travel grant is currently open for applications.
To celebrate our winners, we host an online fireside chat where they share their experiences. They talk about the conferences they attended, what they learned, and how the grant helped make it possible. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to hear firsthand how these grants create real impact.

2025 Dr. Andreas Hövener – 14th ELT Malta Conference 2025, Malta
2026 Kate Boron – 42nd ETAS Annual Conference, Switzerland
Kirsten Wächter – 6th APIBA Business English Conference, Argentinia
We are also pleased to announce a travel grant for members wishing to participate in the 15th ELT Malta Conference on 23 & 25 October 2026. All interested members are encouraged to apply until September 20 using this form. We look forward to supporting your engagement in the 15th ELT Malta Conference.
